Matt applies his training in synthetic organic chemistry and chemical biology to assist clients in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications.
Matt’s doctoral research at Harvard University focused on the design and synthesis of new aminoglycoside antibiotics to overcome microbial resistance. His graduate studies utilized both fully synthetic and semisynthetic approaches to access structurally novel members of the aminoglycoside family. His work resulted in the preparation of a rationally designed antibiotic that is selectively active against pan-aminoglycoside resistant E. coli. Matt’s medicinal chemistry training is supplemented by his experience synthesizing and evaluating small molecule inhibitors of biofilm formation in mycobacteria. He received the Derek Bok Teaching Award for Excellence while serving as a teaching fellow, where he educated graduate students on the usage of modeling tools to design molecules against medicinally relevant protein targets.
Matt is an author to research reported in The Journal of Organic Chemistry and has co-authored research in Medicinal Chemistry Communications.
